9. Why should I donate if everything is free?
The only reason the shows are all free now - is because someone somewhere
was generous enough to send us a small donation to help us cover our monthly
hosting and bandwidth fee's. If everyone stops sending in donations because
the shows are now free - we will simply have no choice but to close the site
down. Simple as that.
Each time we send out an email or someone visits the site or downloads a
show - a small amount of "data" has to be sent from our server to that
computer.
This data transfer is known as bandwidth .. and it is not free. Each month
we pay around $250 in hosting fee's and bandwidth costs - we also have
domain name registration - server monitoring - backup fee's (which we are
currently paying out of our own pockets).
We currently have a dedicated server and use around 800GB of bandwidth each
month.
We figure it'll be easier to get 10-15 people to send us $10-20 per month than it
will be to get one person to send us $250 per month, and this way all 75,000
of our current subscribers can benefit from the shows instead of a hundred
or so.
Please do be aware however. If we fail to get sufficient donations to cover
the server fee's - we will close down the site and stop sending the shows.
The time has come to see if the site can pay for itself. I have subsidized
the fee's out of my own pocket for long enough now I'm afraid. Much as we
love doing this and sharing the shows, we don't have $250 per month to throw
down the drain each month. If just 1% of the people that get the shows would
send us just $5 .. we would have enough money to pay for the site for a full
12 months.
Please don't think that someone else will send in a donation if you don't.
If everyone else thinks the same way you do, the site will disappear very
quickly.
